Rat traps and Penguin boxes
It’s all go, at Tui, materials to build the penguin boxes and traps are collected and most of it is build. Now comes the hard part, setting it out in the bush. Our consultant came out and marked the first spots for the rat grid that will be put in place.
So armed with compass, tape, traps, (and later GPS, to record the coordinates) the team is sliding through the rather damp bush. In some area’s where there are mainly Beech trees growing, it is very steep, so even from home (someone has got to get lunch ready), you can hear an occasional yelp, from yet, someone else that makes a spectacular slide.
Thankfully the Tui team is expended with the help of Will and Rachel, volunteers from the USA, that are not to worried about sweating it out in the bush. Still a long way to go but it is good to have made a start.
